Explore and visualize insights
Make informed decisions about your Apple Search Ads Advanced campaigns with robust
analytics tools
Insights (beta) is a powerful data analytics engine that lets you look deeply into performance across every campaign, ad placement, and keyword in your account.
- The summary view in Insights offers a snapshot of overall performance for your selected campaign groups.
- Predefined reports help you get started quickly and understand key performance indicators like impression share. Each report is pre-populated with common measures (metrics) and attributes (dimensions) that you can add to and edit.
- Visualization options let you explore and analyze different data segments across your entire account. You can add and remove measures, attributes, and filters to see data at the granularity that works best for your goals. Measures like view-through installs can help you understand the total value of your campaigns, beyond taps.
- You can view data as bar graphs, line charts, or in stacked columns. To dynamically update a report with the most recent data, all you have to do is click Go.
How to find Insights
In the upper-right corner of your Campaigns dashboard, Ad Groups dashboard, Ads dashboard, or Keywords tab, click the Insights link and then choose Explore Insights from the menu. This will take you to the analytics engine, where you can inspect in-depth data, create new visualizations, and access previously generated reports.
How to adjust summary view data
By default, the summary view is set to show total installs, total average CPA, spend, and impressions for the last seven days within your current campaign group. By hovering over an individual measure’s graph, you can see data for specific dates within your selected range. If no data is available, you may see a flat line through the graph.
To change the date range
- Above the graphs, click the date option that’s set by default to Last 7 Days.
- From the menu that appears, choose a preset date range or select a custom range.
- Click Done to update the data in your summary view graphs.
Note that data from the current day won’t be included in the reports. If you choose Yesterday from the date menu, you’ll only see a single data point in each graph.
To change or include additional
campaign groups
- Above the graphs, click the campaign group option that’s set by default to your current campaign group.
- From the menu that appears, select one, several, or all campaign groups. Note that only the campaign groups you have access to within your organization will appear as options in the menu.
- Click Done to update the data in your summary view graphs.
Explore campaign performance and visualize data
When you’re ready to dive into data exploration and visualization, click the Create Report button on the Insights page. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you look at different information segments and try different data views:
- On the Create Report page, you can click the Go button or click anywhere in the blank area of the page to automatically generate a default report.
- Default reports offer a convenient starting point for data exploration. They include your total installs, total average CPA, spend, and impressions for the last seven days, broken down by campaign group, campaign name, country or region, and app name.
- You can also start by choosing a predefined or custom report from the Report Type menu. All report types, including custom, will automatically populate some measures (metrics) and attributes (dimensions) to help you get started.
- You can filter data to only see information for a specific campaign group, campaign, app, or country or region.
- You can also sort data by columns to see rows in ascending or descending order. For example, you could sort alphabetically by app name.
How to filter data in reports
Filtering data lets you see performance according to criteria you set — which can help you analyze results more efficiently. For example, you could apply a filter to see only search results campaign performance in a report showing data across ad placements. Here’s how to apply a filter:
- From the left panel, select the checkbox next to a measure or attribute.
- Click the row where the measure or attribute name appears. To the right of it, click the “Add as filter” icon that appears.
- Select the filter you’d like to add. Note that if you’re adding a Date filter, you’ll need to click the Fixed tab in the window before choosing your date range.
- Click the Apply button.
Tip: Put Daily filters to work.
If you’d like to see performance broken down by each day, add a Daily filter. Type “Date Daily” into the search box above your report. Applying this filter will add a Daily column to your report that you can then sort by date to compare performance from one day to the next.
How to create predefined and custom reports
- On the Create Report page within Insights, choose Custom or a predefined report from the Report Type menu.
- You can name your report before you start or wait until after you’ve visualized all of your data.
- Choose your time zone from the menu. Note that reports are automatically set to UTC, but you can choose to set them to any time zone, including the time zone associated with your organization.
- If you’d like to change your report’s default date of Last 7 Days, click the Date option above the data columns. Click the Fixed tab and adjust the range accordingly. Note that when you start a new report, Date will always be set to Last 7 Days, which excludes data for the current day.
- Within the panel on the left, select or deselect checkboxes next to the measures and attributes you want to include in your report. All report types will automatically include certain sets of measures and attributes to help you get started — but you can modify the selections to suit your goals.
- Once you’ve selected all of your measures and attributes, click Go. Your data will appear as columns in your report. To view your data as a chart instead of stacked columns, click the line chart or bar graph icon across from your selected date range.
- Filter data to see different segments, or add or remove measures or attributes to refine your report content. When you’re finished exploring segments and data views, click Save.
- If you’d like to duplicate or delete the report, click the more menu icon (three dots) in the upper-right corner. From the menu, choose your desired action. If you’d like to download the report, click the download icon in the upper-right corner and choose a file type from the menu that appears.

Simply select or deselect the measures and attributes you want to add or remove, or choose a different date range by clicking the Date option in the panel above your report. The default date for predefined reports is Yesterday.
Note that for Daily and Weekly Impression Share reports, attributes can’t be edited and time zone is constrained to UTC to improve report generation performance.
How to reconfigure the data in
a report
- Open the report from your list on the Insights page.
- Within the report page, click the “Edit chart configuration” gear icon to the right of the report data.
- Click the Configure tab.
- Drag and drop the measures and attributes you’d like to view in the order you’d like them to appear on either the X or Y axis of your report. For example if your report was set to show a trend over time for Installs (Total), you could drag Spend to the Y axis to see a trend line for that measure as well.
- Click Apply.
View and manage existing reports
In your list of reports in Insights, you’ll see all the reports you’ve created. From the Insights page, you can do all of the following:
Review report modifications
By default, reports on the Insights page are sorted in order of the last modification made. You can see when the report was last updated and by whom by checking the Last Modified and Created By columns.
Edit an existing report
If you created the report originally, you can make changes to it. Otherwise you’ll have read-only access and will have to duplicate it to make updates. To edit a report, click its name on the Insights page. Within the report, you can adjust its name in the Report Name field. Or you can select or deselect measures or attributes to change the report data. Click Save to save your report.
Download a report
In the Actions column on the Insights page, click the download icon next to the report you’d like to download. You can download the report as an XLSX file.
Duplicate a report
In the Actions column, click the more menu icon (three dots) in the row of the report you’d like to duplicate. From the menu, choose Duplicate. Your new report will contain the same attributes, measures, and filters as your original report. You’ll be able to adjust, add, and remove report settings as needed.
Delete a report
In the Actions column, click more menu icon (three dots) in the row of the report you’d like to delete. From the menu, choose Delete. If you’re the creator of the report, this will permanently delete the report for you.
Troubleshooting in Insights
Certain combinations of measures and attributes may cause issues with your report generation. When creating reports, keep in mind that:
- You can’t combine more than one Time attribute in a single report.
- All reports have an 18-month date range limit.
- For data to be readable, Impression Share, Search Popularity, and Rank measures must be used with Day, App, App ID, Country or Region, and Search Term attributes.
- Predefined Impression Share reports can only display the last 12 weeks of data.
