Today tab ads troubleshooting

If you don’t see any eligible custom product pages available during
ad creation

This may mean:

  • You haven’t yet created any custom product pages in App Store Connect or the custom product pages were disabled.
  • The pages you’ve created haven’t been approved yet in App Store Connect.
  • The pages you created don’t include the minimum number of assets for a Today tab ad — four portrait or five landscape images.
  • Your custom product pages are missing assets for iPhone 5.5-inch and 6.5-inch or 6.7-inch displays.
  • You don’t have the minimum number of assets in all the languages that your custom product page is set up for, that your campaign’s country and region settings support.

Sign in to App Store Connect to create a custom product page or to check your previously created pages.

If you see a message that your ad creative is
in review

Ad creative for the Today tab must be approved for advertising according to our ad guidelines. Once you select a custom product page and create your Today tab campaign, your ad creative will automatically be submitted for review. During this time your ad will be placed on hold and will display “Ad creative in review” on the Ads dashboard. Your ad can also go back into review if you make changes to the custom product page associated with it in App Store Connect. If you make changes to your custom product page, your ad creative will need to go through the approval process again.

If your ad is rejected

If your ad creative is rejected, you can learn why by clicking View Reasons in the Status column on the Ads dashboard for that ad group. You’ll see reasons for each country or region. You can also download rejection reasons data for a single rejected ad or for all rejected ads in an ad group from the Actions menu on the Ads dashboard.

Once you revise your custom product page in App Store Connect and it’s approved there, it’ll be automatically resubmitted for approval for your Today tab ad. If approved for advertising, your ad will run right away unless you set its status to Pause.

Tip: Consider ad guidelines across countries and regions.

If your Today tab campaign is set to run in multiple countries or regions, it’s possible your ad could get rejected because of issues in one country or region but not another. Make sure your custom product page assets adhere to our ad guidelines for all countries or regions and languages where you want your campaign to run. If your ad is rejected for one country or region, the ad will be placed on hold.

If your ad is on hold

A Today tab ad may be on hold for the following reasons:

  • Your ad creative is in review. Before your Today tab ad can run, the custom product page must be approved for advertising.
  • Your ad creative was rejected. This means it can’t run. You can learn more by visiting the Ads dashboard and clicking View Reasons in the Status column.
  • If the custom product page contains assets that aren’t compatible with an ad group’s country or region, or audience device, the ad can’t run. Once your custom product page is updated and approved in App Store Connect, it’ll be automatically resubmitted for approval for your Today tab ad. If approved for advertising, your ad will run right away unless you set its status to Pause.
  • If the custom product page has been disabled in App Store Connect, the ad can’t run. Once the page is reenabled in App Store Connect, the ad will run right away unless you set its status to Pause.
  • If you removed assets from App Store Connect after your Today tab ad went live and, as a result, you no longer have a sufficient number of assets, your ad will go on hold.
  • If you delete your custom product page from App Store Connect, your ad cannot run.

If your Today tab ad doesn’t show up in your duplicated campaign or
ad group

Your ad creative may be incompatible with the destination campaign because of differences in language for the countries or regions. Consider localizing the custom product page for the countries or regions your campaign is set to reach.

If you want to change the ad creative for your Today tab ad

If you want to change the custom product page used for a particular Today tab ad group, you’ll need to create a new ad, and then once approved set its status to Active from the Ads dashboard. Your previously approved ad will continue to run until you activate the new ad.

If you can’t create another Today
tab ad

This happens when there aren’t any additional eligible custom product pages available.
